KohSpot pulled some strings, greased some palms and engaged in some Chinese mafia payola to gain access to the man behind the popular Wine Connection at K Village. The head chef, Matt, is a 31 year old Boston native who aspires to bring quintessential european dishes to the Thai masses (780 plates a day to be precise) and is the one responsible for making sure your salad nicoise or Salmon Ravioli arrive promptly, taste good and doesn’tleave you broke by the end of the night. Matt was the first to admit that the Wine Connection is a ‘business with economics of scale in mind’. Yes, the dishes may leave those with a more discerning palate a little disappointed but the Wine Connection serves its role as an affordable wine and bistro well.
Food is predictable, prices reasonable and service is adequate. So what do you really want to know about Wine connection? Matt gives us the nitty gritty details:
Evenings are the best time for scoping an attractive crowd (lunch is mainly for families or readers of Lonely Planet).
Saturday is “celebrity day” according to Head Chef Matt. Apparently, if you want to see B-list celebrities like DJ Buddha come in to the Wine Connection at 7pm Saturday evenings. Apparently, Taksin has yet to make an appearance at the Wine Connection, but its only a matter of time until he rents out the place for a decadent hoopla.
The adjacent Wine store is the real deal and generates more than 50% of the Wine Connections business at this particular location. To get some of the best prices on imported wines head over to the wine shop and select a bottle of your favorite fermented grape juice. With over 500 choices of wine there is something for everyone.
If you want Mustard with your dish it will be an extra 10 baht.
